kids and goats... or kids...

We understand the world we live in through our senses – sadly, many people see, hear and feel the same things, day-after-day… Same walls, same pavements, same boarded up houses….All people, young and old alike, benefit from the experience of new environments, whether walking in the countryside, or looking round an art gallery, or visiting a new city.

Snowdon

A group of young people aged 16-19, with a couple of their tutors in their 40’s – and a very bouncy Mountain Leader – did a sponsored walk up Mount Snowdon in Wales.   It got quite tough near the top where the snow was – but they ‘felt the fear and did it anyway’!!   Coming back down, someone slipped on the snow, and realised  that – ‘it’s a lot easier, mate, if you come down on your …..bottom!’   So they did.   And raised nearly £1000 for their local branch of the charity DeBRA, through Justgiving and taking a bucket round Bransholme NorthPoint Shopping Centre.

Countryside Leader

Scott Dockerty didn’t go to school very much after the age of 13, and really, the only thing that got him through our door onto the Personal Effectiveness Programme when he was 17, was the Education Maintenance Allowance.   He couldn’t read and write very well, and he didn’t like working in groups.   Just over a year later, he led a group of walkers, all teachers aged 35+, on a walk, mapreading, and describing the features – a wall, a hill, the edge of a wood -  that he was steering by – in order to pass his Countryside Leader qualification.

Family Learning Days

We hold Family Learning days introducing people to new things, new experiences and new places.   This could be anything from a visit to a local farm, a day out to the seaside or pond-dipping -  to going for a run round the park with the charity Parkrun.
