group of people at the larkin workshop

We all need to express ourselves in some way – to tell our friends how we feel, to complain about the service at the bank, or by getting down on the dance floor!!!   We support a wide range of creative and expressive activities, from art exhibitions to electro music nights, from creative play days for children to karaoke!

Write To Speak

Volcom has supported Write To Speak to run a range of spoken word events – from big name poets visiting the city – to local people standing up to ‘tell a poem’ for the first time in their lives’.   Click here to watch some of Write To Speak’s local poets expressing themselves as part of the Larkin 25 celebrations.

Youth In Focus

Humbercare is an organisation that works with ex-offenders and young people leaving care.   Volcom has supported their User Involvement Days for the last few years by lending gazebos, giant games, cameras and projectors through The Common Treasury.   We also helped organise and document User Involvement for Humbercare’s bid to the Big Lottery Fund’s Youth In Focus programme.

Life On Orchard

Craig Marriott used to work as a camera assistant at Tyne Tees television.   He was amazed when he discovered that volcom could lend him a professional video camera, lights, tripod, dolly and track – so that he could make the films he wants to make.   Craig lives on Orchard Park Estate – an area which has just had a much-needed, much-promised regeneration programme cancelled.   He is working with his neighbours and groups of young people on the estate to produce a film about their lives, working title ‘Life on Orchard’.

City of Sanctuary/Jordan

M Jordan Nleya has been borrowing cameras and laptops from The Common Treasury for a couple of year, and has used them to develop his business, and to support refugee communities in the city, through the City of Sanctuary initiative.   In return for the help we have given him, he has helped by training other people in how to use video editing software.   This is what he had to say to us on Facebook;

Good news : LeviTechStudios UK has been offered the opportunity to design covers for Zimbabwe & Africa`s leading book publisher. One Love Jordan(PureMatics)
