learning with common treasury kit

We asked community groups what they wanted – and they said – ‘things like a laminator, or a comb-binder, or some extra chairs – but we don’t want to own them, and we don’t want to have to look after them!’.   So we set up the Common Treasury – a ‘lending library’ of useful stuff – for community action and learning.

Salem Ali is a local musician who was a regular borrower of laptops, cameras and sound equipment.   When he became involved in organising Hull's first community celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, open to the general public - he thought about us, and borrowed giant games, gazebos and cameras.   The festival was a great success, and we expect it to be even bigger and better next year!

happy group of people

Amazing Grace chapel have become enthusiastic video-makers, ever since we first trained some of their members to use our PD 150 cameras.   They use the cameras to film their Sunday services - and so that they have a permanent record of all of the events - musical concerts, drama shows, youth performances and educational events - that make up the work of the church.

Gazebos, chairs and tables in the summer sun

The Tweendykes Allotments Society runs social events for local people, such summer Barbeques, Christmas Parties and Bonfire Night Celebrations - which is where our gazebos, chairs and tables come in handy!   The Society shows children and adults how to grow their own fruit and vegetables, and use these social events to help them fundraise for a toilet to use on the site!

Three people enjoying themselves

The Hessle Road Pram Race was originally called The Fish Dock Pram Race and was run on Fridays during the 1920's and 1930's. The wives of Hull trawlermen at sea would rush down West Dock Avenue to the trawler owner's offices to draw their men's wages.
The Race was revived in 1985 - and Hessle Road Network, a youth organisation, play a big part in this celebration of local history.Another great Hessle Road tradition, is people singing in pubs - and in
the modern version, that means that our Karaoke machine was an essential part of this celebration!
